Savings or CD?

Updated: Feb 12, 2020

“I said to the LORD, ‘You are my LORD; apart from you I have no good thing.'”

-Psalm 16:2

Verse 2 reminds me that no matter how good something seems/feels, if it’s not God’s will for me, it’s NOT GOOD FOR ME. Even if it’s God’s will for someone else and it’s good for them; if it’s not God’s will for me, it’s NOT GOOD FOR ME. Anything that I have apart from God is NOT good for me. (Psalm 16:2-paraphrase). Verse 2 is my reminder that my full trust and confidence should be in God! God knows what’s best for me; everything that I need on this journey, God will supply. In fact, He’s already deposited it in me; but like a bank CD everything God’s placed in me has Kairos [an appointed time].

A CD is also referred to as a time deposit. Much like a savings account, you store your money in a CD for saving and not spending; but, unlike a savings account, a CD is normally set to be unreleased until it has reached maturity! [Thank you, Lord] A major difference between a savings account and a CD is that, with a savings account, when you withdraw your money, you get just that, your money. With a CD, when you put your money away in this account, interest is accrued up thru the date of maturity. Often, as a reward for pledging your faithful commitment to the financial institution for the length of the CD term, the institution offers higher interest rates than a regular savings account. This means that your money multiplies much faster when you commit to being a faithful customer by letting your money mature untouched until the Kairos [appointed time].

If that wasn’t enough, in verse 5 we are reassured that what God has for us is for us. It doesn’t matter if it seems like it’s taking to long.

“LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure.” -Psalm 16:5

I often think to myself, “God, I really desire ‘xyz’, but in order for ‘xyz’ to happen ‘abc’ has to be done and ‘def’ has to happen, etc., etc., etc.”

Then I think, “But, God, if ‘abc’ doesn’t happen NOW ‘ghf’ could happen and ‘mno’ could swoop in and take what I want!”

And in response to all this God says, “That’s all just alphabet soup! Here are some letters for you; I am the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. I KNOW the plans that I have for you and all you have to do is TRUST ME! (Jer. 29:11)  Trust that what I have for you, I’ve already stored in the KRCU [Kingdom Royal Credit Union]. First of all, only those who have been grafted into THE Royal Family are eligible to become members of the KRCU. The initial deposit to become a member was a bit steep, so what we’ve done is, once you pledge/commit your love, trust and faith in us, we’ll take care of your initial deposit. On your behalf, we will then open an innumerable amount of CDs. Some CDs will reach maturity in days, others in weeks, months or years; but be certain that we’ve compiled a comprehensive portfolio for you, such that when you need to tap into your CDs [i.e. more faith, joy, peace, kindness, meekness, financial yield, job, friendship, etc.] the one(s) that you need will reach maturity right at the moment that you need them. The best part of a KRCU CD account is the interest accrued! When it’s time to withdraw the ‘funds’ from your CD you won’t only reap the initial faith, trust and love that you put in, in fact you won’t only reap the initial deposit that we put in for you. Oh, no, you also receive the interest that has accrued up thru the date of maturity. And I promise that it’s exceedingly and abundantly more than you could ever ask or think (Eph. 3:20)!  Indeed, if you would just TRUST my Kairos [appointed time] and allow me to fully mature each of your CDs you will never ever, ever have to want for anything!”

Our problem is, we want mere savings accounts; because with a savings account we are in control. We decide how much goes into our savings account and we can withdraw any of that amount at anytime we want [The Burger King Account]. The crux of the whole thing is: your interest will be significantly lower for a mere savings account! So, when we are faced with the choice of only a little right now or abundance if we just wait for God’s Kairos, what do we do?…… WE SETTLE for much less than what God has stored up for us in the KRCU so that we can be in control [or at least so that we can have the illusion of being in control—but that’s a whole other story).

Well, much like Joshua, I’m making a declaration! “I declare that I will no longer settle for less than what God has stored up for me! I declare that I will take His yoke upon me and learn of Him (Matt. 11:29). I declare that I will be patient and wait for my KRCU CDs to mature! I declare that I will trust that what God has for me, it is for me and if it’s for me then He’s already reserved it with my name on it (Psalm 16:5), so NO ONE ELSE is authorized to make withdrawals from my account! I declare that I will faithfully study and learn patience and let it complete its work in me (James 1:2) I declare that as God blesses me, I will, in turn, bless others; because, the ‘interest'(overflow) isn’t for me to hold onto and hoard, but to make a deposit into someone else’s account. I declare that the joy of the Lord is my strength and so I will rejoice, I will praise and I will worship Him no matter what the circumstances are. Because I recognize that the ‘circumstances’ [i.e. things, ppl, and situations surrounding me] are nowhere near as great as the God who is WITHIN me! I declare that I will learn to be content whatever my circumstances (Phil. 4:11).

As for me, I choose the Kingdom Royal Credit Union CD account, what do you choose?

Bless God and God Bless!
